Description
Today I am auctioning off my Roland Jupiter 8 synthesizer and it's accompanied Roland MD-8 box with brand-new DCB cable. It's an amazing synth with a beautiful sound that should be given a look over by a tech. It has a few small problems that need to be looked at by someone that knows what they're doing with it. The things I'm sure of is that it is missing one voice (out of 8), which is obvious in it's poly 1 mode where it spans the voices across the keys, not obvious in unison and poly 1 which at that point just means you can only press up to 7 keys down at once. One of the coolest things about the JP-8 is that the VCO 2 is incremental in range, so you're not stuck simply with 16',8',4', etc. But the pot that controls this is a bit dirty so that sometimes doesn't work right until it's settled. The buttons across the board need to be cleaned as well, as some don't work correctly, pretty much all the LEDs on the buttons work, the faders all work, it plays in tune, it just needs a little but of TLC by your local tech. There may be more wrong with it that is less obvious but I do not have time to sit down and go through it completely, but I left it on for a day jumping on and off of it playing music and it sounds beautiful. When you do split in poly 1 mode it gives you 4 keys on the bottom and 3 on the top to work with so even in the state it's in it's usable to the right person. The bender and LFO modulation button work fine. Cosmetically it is in decent shape, it has a small bump in the vents which is obvious in the first picture but not obvious when you look at it normally, some small rust spots in places; near the back and in some of the corners and on the bottom. It is one of the mark 1 units with the larger Roland logo on the back and has a very prestigious history that I can disclose via a personal message but don't want to put it up here (I don't have any solid proof, unfortunately). The MD-8 box should work fine, it lets you control the Jupiter 8 via midi, but I have no way of testing it. The keyboard is sold as-is because of this. Bid on this knowing unless you're able to live with it's foibles, it should be taken to a technician. Get that classic Duran Duran sound (one of Nick Rhodes's favorites) or Human League tone into your music now with this keyboard. They do not make them like this anymore and with so few out there they're becoming a rarity. It comes with a case which needs to be redone on the inside because of it's age but I will wrap the jupiter 8 in plastic so it doesn't get any black stuff on it. The case protects it quite well and is very strong, but because of this and the fact this beast is heavy, shipping will be 150 dollars. It will be insured and have tracking as well.
