RARE FINE ANTIQUE 1897 CG CONN THE WONDER VIOLIN    We are pleased to offer this very rare and hard to come by C.G. Conn "The Wonder" Violin in superb ready to play condition. The label on the inside reads "The Wonder CG Conn Maker #465` Elkhart Ind New York City. Conn ran a retail store in New York City from 1897 - 1902 for the sale of his Wonder line of instruments, as well as his inventory of fine Wonder violins. The serial number 465 is very low and I would guess this dates to circa 1897-1898. This is one of the earliest examples seen. You could search the world and not find a cleaner, earlier example of this fine quality American violin. Conn hired William V. Pezzoni, a Brooklyn, New York violinmaker to set up a violin manufacturing department at the company's Elkhart, Indiana plant in 1897. The Conn Wonder Violin was the product of a huge operation, rivaling in scope the mass production facilities of Germany. The advertising hype was that he took apart several Strads and measured them before modeling his 'Wonder Violin' after them. Violin has just been serviced by Valerio Mongillo of Old Mill Violins in Biddeford Maine. Here is what was done. It was cleaned, sound post and bridge was reset, added a new ebony chin rest, new nut and fingerboard, set up and ready to play. The finish was not altered and retains its natural beauty, finish and character. The Ebony tailpiece is original and had a fine tuner added. She plays and sounds like a dream, with a beautiful rich tone. Back is a gorgeous book matched flamed maple, the best I've seen. Violin is a high quality instrument in superb condition free of any cracks, chips, dents or other repairs. Comes complete with dust cover with stitched text "The Wonder". You will not see a nicer example of a Conn Wonder violin especially with such a low serial number. This violin is a great investment instrument.
