Description
Peter "Max" Baranet   1959 Les Paul Burst. This was a 1997 kit that was made by Max that I bought from his friend Jim Torgeson. The body, neck and Brazilian fingerboard were made in 1997 by Max. The COA included will verify this information. The kit was sent to Dave Johnson of Vintage Restorations for the assembly and finish (receipt included).  Dave is the only luthier who has worked on this guitar!!  The guitar is nothing short of Amazing! If you have seen any of the Max guitars you know the maple tops are very deep and vintage looking. Add the luther skills and teaburst finish by DJ and you have one of the best old growth replicas available. Here is a rundown of the parts used on the guitar:  Original 1959 long magnet PAF's, 1957 pots with Sprague Black Beauty caps, 1950's switch, DMC - Switch ring, switch tip, bushings & tuners. Gibson Reissue - pickguard, pickup rings, jack plate, featherweight tail piece, ABR1 Bridge, Control Knobs. The guitar comes with HS case. What Makes the 1959 Les Paul Sound??  (From Max)  4 main factors are involved; 1) the Wood 2) the Finish 3) the Glue and 4) the Pickups The woods used in this guitar are old growth Mahogany (over 100 years old) flame maple from the same time period, Braziian Rosewood from Germany. The finish is Nitrocellulose lacquer like Gibson used in the 1950's. The glue used in the complete construction of this guitar was Hide glue. This is also the same type of glue that was used in the 1950's. The hide glue is very readily absorbed into the wood. It leaves very little film between the two pieces of wood being bonded. Hide glue dries very hard and brittle. It crystalizes like glass and as such it becomes a resonant part of the guitar. If you want the 50's true burst tone use original PAF pickups.
