Description
100% Original 1959 / 1960 Fender Stratocaster neck, Brazilian Rosewood Slab, in near mint, original condition. This neck is in beautiful condition, the original decals are completely intact, and flawless, the original vintage frets are in great shape, with only minor signs of wear, mostly on the first few frets, the string tree is original, even has the metal spacer, (they changed to plastic spacers shortly after). There are a few very minor impressions in the finish, that I wouldn't even consider to be dings, but they are there, but nothing you would feel while playing. There is no wear on the rosewood fretboard, no grooves. The neck is straight, with no warping, and the tuners are the original Kluson Deluxe, with the D patent no. stamped on the underside. The dot inlays are clay, and a bit yellowed from age. There is no neck date, consistant with a period in '59, when Fender stopped the practice of dating the necks, due to a customer complaint about an obscenity written on one, or more, of their necks (disgruntled employee?). Soon after that, Fender incorporated the "rubber stamp" dating method. This neck has been in storage for over 40 years, and it looks as good as many new Fender necks. If you're looking for a nice vintage neck to finish off your $40K vintage 59 Strat, don't wait too long on this one, they don't come around very often, in this kind of shape, and if you want a relic, you'll have to do it yourself!. After a bit more research, online, I have found information stating that the period when Fender didn't use neck dates, ranged from mid '59 to early '60, so conceivably, this could be a 1960 Strat neck, and could be used for either a '59, or '60 Strat. The camera flash makes the finish appear uneven in color, and due to the grain in the wood, it makes it look lighter in spots, than it is, but as you can see in the picture of the full back of the neck, the color is consistant. There's a 1959 Stratocaster, currently on Ebay, for 55K, with similar markings, and no neck date, in case you're skeptical, but don't let the fine condition of this neck fool you, it's absolutely genuine! This would be a great finishing touch to your '59/'60 Strat, or a great place to start, if you want to built your vintage dream Strat. I've added a couple of pictures of the headstock, in natural light, no flash. You can actually hear the story about the old necks, with no neck date, by searching for "1959 Stratocaster" on youtube, where they show a 1959 Strat being appraised on the Road Show.
